Dr Julie O'Brien

Consultant Radiologist, University Hospital Limerick

Dr Julie O’Brien is a Consultant Radiologist in University Hospital Limerick. Having completed her undergraduate medical training in University College Dublin, she continued her medical training in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital and subspecialty Radiology training in Tallaght Hospital Dublin

From there she did three subspecialty Fellowships in Vancouver Canada after which she worked on Staff as a Consultant Radiologist in the Royal Columbian Hospital.

She commenced her role in UHL in 2014 close to her family home in North Cork

Dr. O’Brien is currently the Chair of the Cardiac Imaging subcommittee of the Faculty of Radiologists and is a former member of the Board of the Faculty as well as an active member of the Science and Radiation protection committees. She also a fellow of the Society of cardiovascular CT and has been invited to speak at international meetings.

In her role as Consultant in UHL, she reports multi-modality cross sectional Radiology as well as key involvement in multi-disciplinary oncology meetings and has single handedly set up the Cardiac imaging service in the Mid-West. Dr O’Brien has a keen interest in efficiency and quality improvement, including the development of evidence-based imaging guidelines and pathways in her department.
